Olympia Washington Greater South Sound Area Group Buy
-
Ok people it is time once again for an Olympia group buy. This is a new venue with the same procedure. I will post lists of different grains, their SRM rating and their price. All orders need to be put into this thread (DO NOT PM THE ORDER). The purchase will be made on January 20th 2012. Last order will be taken on January 15th 2012. Once all orders are in, I will send a pm including the amount necessary to fill your order and the Paypal email address to remit payment to. With all of that said, here we go with the list. There is a $5 per bag fuel surcharge that has not been included in the price list, so add $5 per bag for pricing.

Wow, what an offer!
....but let me get this straight, you want to add $5 per bag for some kind of fuel surcharge?!?!??? So you expect all of us to believe that it costs you $5 per bag to drive from Olympia to Portland and back?? You would have to be driving a vehicle that gets less than 1 MPG for this to be accurate. From my calculations that means that doctorink will be paying you $135 in just fuel surcharge costs!! Not to mention any other suckers that you get to go in on this buy.
I think that you are trying to get everyone else to pay for not only fuel, but all your grain and probably your car payment for the next couple months!!
I would offer to drive to Main Street in Portland and pick up grain for the same cost and NOT charge anyone for fuel. -
@djsethall are you sure you meant $5 per bag and not $5 per order? That seems pretty excessive. The only thing between me and a train wreck is blind luck..... - Kenny
-
@lakewood Last year, the fuel surcharge was the same. Nobody complained and were happy with their orders. A bag of 2 row for $30.50 is not a bad deal. I know that my LHBS doubles the price of the bags to sell them. I am not making a profit. Last year's group buy took 3 vehicles multiplied by a 200 mile round trip. I actually lost money on last years buy. If you do not like the prices that are offered or the fuel surcharge, there is a simple solution which is to not place an order for the group buy. I have no ulterior motives. I make my own car payments and buy my own grain. I don't want to rant about this, but, I am providing a service for local homebrewers that don't like paying retail for their grains. It is not as simple as one would think to place an order through GWM. You have to have an account with them. GWM stopped selling to homebrewers. If you can find a better deal, go with that deal. End of rant.
-
Feel free to do your research, things must be cheaper in your neck of the woods. Up here in the PNW, we get raped for a bag of grain. The cheapest I have found it was $50 a bag from the LHBS. The other LHBS's charge upward of $63 a bag
-
@djsthall - Well, I too am in the PNW and am very familiar with all the prices from Kent to Portland. Most stores are selling a bag of 2-row for about $40. Probably the most expensive place is a store in Tacoma and even the price for 2-row isn't what you claim. Believe me, I'm not looking to start an argument, I just don't want to see local homebrewers pay more for supplies than absolutely necessary. I was not kidding when I said that I could do this same order and not have any kind of fuel charge. For crap sake, you could rent a uhaul and drive from Oly to PDX/Vancouver for cheaper than what you are claiming. I'm very sorry if you are getting raped for anything you purchase. It appears to me that you need to shop around a little more. I can tell you (without naming names) the shop in Oly and Tacoma are not the places to purchase any supplies if you want to save money. You need to look to Kent or down to Kelso, or look around PDX the next time you travel into Oregon. I also know that there are several homebrew clubs within a 30min drive to Oly, that is a good way to help save cash.
Again, I am dead serious when I said that I can haul any amount of grain that you could purchase and I would not want a dime for fuel. If anyone in the PNW wants to know more, let me know. -
It would be great if the two of you could hook up on the group buy. I'm not in the area otherwise I would take you guys up on the deal for sure! The only thing between me and a train wreck is blind luck..... - Kenny

Group Buy is now closed. Emails with totals have been sent. Once payment has been received, I place the order.
