Cigar flavor in beer
-
I have had a few beers that I get a cigar flavor in, I think it's an off flavor. I hate it. I'm very sensitive to it. I've had Jockamo IPA from Abita that was so strong I dumped it. Their Christmas ale had hints too. Tried one from Cigar City brewing that I dumped. Just had an IPA from Springfield Brewing that had a hint. They used Cascade, centennial and perle hops. I have researched and found nothing on the webs. It tastes like an unsmoked cigar, the tobacco flavor. Some might like, for me, it's a dumper.

i've never tasted this. and i like Jockamo IPA, so i guess i am dead to the flavor. then again i smoke, so maybe i'm just totally used to it?
glad i could help! -
i believe tobacco flavors are a byproduct of some yeast strains. can't remember off the top of my head which ones. if i get some time i'll take a look (might actually already be documented on the wiki)

Aged in Spanish Cedar to get that flavor. Interesting."On it. I hate software." ~Cpt Snarklepants
