San Diego Brewery Tour

I'd like to organize a Brewery Tour trip in San Diego CA with HBF members. I'm thinking sometime in June or July. I know a lot of the membership is strewn about the globe, but for anyone who could make a family vacation out of the trip to Southern California, I think it would be a worthy investment of one day of the vacay.

    Potential Breweries to Hit:
    Stone Brewery
    Karl Strauss
    Port Brewing / Pizza Port
    Green Flash
    Ballast Point
    The Lost Abbey
    Alesmith Brewing

Depending on who / how many are going, I'll work out the logistics.

Let me know if you;re interested.

@WolfBier I recall you being local, but I haven't seen you online for a while so I thought I would give you a shout out.

I'm in, assuming I haven't moved back east, I'm most definitely in, last time I was at lost abbey someone had stolen the giant crucifix from the lobby the day before! Stone is always tops when heading that way too!

    I hope I don't move!

No luck. I go off starting the 24th...

Do not worry about me though, my schedule is likely to change before then. And getting the wife to let me jaunt off to San Diego will be delicate.

I consider having Wyoming represented at this thing to be a major milestone... You need to start priming that pump.

Unless I take my vacation that week...then I'd pretty much have to take the family to Disneyland. Eh. It's just money, right?

Don't hold your breath, but my wife is on board. She's all stoked about the zoo and sea world... Other suggestions for the family would be welcome.

Ok, I just checked and it looks like my wife is supposed to be out of town that weekend.

Does anyone have a conflict with June 8, 9?

Actually loads of family stuff to do in southern Cali, the wild animal park, the zoo, sea world, Disney, in June there is the del mar fair, there is knots berry farm, there is Portillo's hot dogs just north of knots berry farm on la Palma in buena park.

Daughters birthday and my anniversary, respectively. That's not necessarily an issue, though.

I'm going to plan for June 8/9 unless someone tells me that wont work for them. Curly, I'm assuming it will be a family vaca so you can make this work, let me know if the fam isn't cool with it.

Yep. Now I just need to figure out the financial side. :) This is working out nicely because we wanted to do a family getaway this summer, but hadn't decided on where.

Ok, so after contacting Stone it looks like our best bet is to set up a private tour, but this means we need to go down during the week. So I'm looking for some feeback, can you guys support doing the brewery excursion on a friday?

I'm recommending we go down on June 7th.

    What say you?

It really is inconsequential to me. In any case I'm taking my one week of vacation for this, so I'll have two full weeks. And I'll be driving (yay) so I don't have to worry about lining up flights.

  • June 7, could be close. Work is supposed to be pedal to the metal until mid-June. Stone doesn't need an exact quantity up front, do they? I'll have a better picture if I can take a day off a few weeks before.

I still have some details to work out with the guys at Port/Lost Abbey but we are going to be a go for a private tour there as well. It's probably going to be an early stop on Friday if we want to see the brewery in action since they don't brew on the weekends.

Never been to lost abbey, but been to stone many a time, not as often as I would like, I tend to forget to make reservations in advance of my trip out that way.

@hamelbrews2 and anyone else who's going

Our first stop is Port Brewing on Friday @ 11am

Anyone who wants to ride down from casa de lakewood with me is welcome. We plan to leave around 8:30a

Second stop is Stone @ 1pm

After that we will decide as a group where we head off to. There are plenty of options and not enough time to do them all.
