“O’Zapft Is!” Home Brewing Competition

At the start of Oktoberfest, the mayor of Munich traditionally taps the first keg, and the cry “O’Zapft Is!” announces to the crowd that “It’s tapped!”
The "O’Zapft Is!" competition focuses only on German Beer styles. While there are other German specialty competitions around the US, “O’Zapft Is!” is unique in that some of the historical and regional styles will be judged as separate categories rather than just being grouped as specialty beers. We have developed style guidelines (downloadable from “Ozapfthomebrew.com") to supplement the standard styles already in BJCP guidelines . We plan to add more unusual German styles over time.
