The title says it all. I'm pretty much sticking to old recipes. An IPA of some sort or a Porter.

two votes for ipa. I discount the porter as cast by someone without a voter id card.

I didn't give it a go today. Maybe tomorrow. So far I've done 4 different IPAs. I think I'll do a porter tomorrow.

I had a black ipa on friday... wasnt terribly impressed with the combination of grain bitterness with the hops. The only thing between me and a train wreck is blind luck..... - Kenny

does rye have any place in a porter?
-
Also, what could I make that isn't black but isn't light colored... and doesn't have a lot of hop bitterness? I don't know my styles. Something dark brown or almost black but not quite black.

Hmmmm... ive never heard of anything like that. I just checked designing great beers and there are no examples of porters with rye in the grain bill referenced there either. The only thing between me and a train wreck is blind luck..... - Kenny -

Just do a brown. The only thing between me and a train wreck is blind luck..... - Kenny -
I'm asking because the only way I can make light colored beers is make IPAs... with a lot of hop flavor to cover up any off tastes that I get when I make tasteless beers... which I really see no point in making now.... because I am making stuff I can't really find easily... or for a decent price...

I only have like a pound of chocolate left so I don't really see me being able to make a porter.

I would use a healthy crystal and chocolate combo. Throw in a bit of sugar (corn or cane) and then the balance can be 2-row or golden promiseThe only thing between me and a train wreck is blind luck..... - Kenny
