AHA Governing Committee Elections - Vote For Dan Fick Please!

    Hello,

My name is Daniel Fick and the AHA Governing Committee elections are coming up soon and I decided to run. I'm very passionate about the hobby and I figure I should funnel that energy and excitement into an activity that can help improve the state of homebrewing for everyone. I'm looking specifically to help out with how the AHA handles the extreme growth they have experienced in recent years as the hobby has grown. This includes issues we've all experienced with the AHA National Homebrew Competition and Conference. I've got a few ideas that I will be putting down to paper over the next few weeks, but I'm always interested in the ideas of others. If you have any thoughts on topics concerning the AHA please feel free to respond on this thread or via PM to me. I would love to hear them.

Lastly, if you're not a current AHA member or your membership is near expiring you may want join/renew before 1/1/2014. On that date the AHA Membership fees are increasing $5.

If you are an AHA member between 2/20/2014 and 3/31-2014 I ask for you to please give me your vote. Thanks.

i can't really help with that, but you might want to leave off the part about how you have 14 cats and live alone in an abandoned shed behind your moms house.

HA. Awesome news. The magazine is totally worth the price of admission lol. It's the main reason I joined when I first started brewing. Sadly the discounts are lacking for MI but out west they have ton of discounts. I renewed my membership a few days ago... If your membership is set to expire next year (mine was July) it just extends it 1 year from then at the $5 less price.

The American Homebrewers Association Governing Committee voting is now open. There are 8 slots open so every AHA member gets to vote for 1-8 candidates. Please vote for me. As a side benefit to voting you get an extra entry into the Lallemand Scholarship, if you wish.

Awesome. Well I hope you're enjoying the benefits of membership. Zymurgy is a pretty cool publication. I'm hoping to make the activities the AHA does for the homebrewers in this country more transparent. Right now it's kind of hard to show people just what the association does since they don't publish financials etc...

And vote only for this guy. Any vote for someone else could potentially put them a vote ahead.

Hmmm, there's a local AHA rally coming up. I think there is even a reduced rate renewal. I might have just recovered the impetus needed to push me over the edge.

Yeah the rallies do offer reduced rates... and they are free for members (if you're already a member.. Otherwise their 'free' after you renew). Bring some homebrew. I'll be going to the Rally at New Holland in Holland, MI.

Sorry, I found out I did not get elected late last week then was out of town all weekend judging the first round of the NHC. So basically at least 8 others out of the 25 running got more votes than me. What was surprising is that the voting pool was quite small. There were 1,636 total ballots, up 15% from last year, with a total of 8,915 votes. Which means only 1,636 members voted out of 40,000+ members. That's 4% or less on the voter turn out...

On one hand I was bummed I was not elected but on the other 2 weeks ago I found out I was essentially being laid off. Maybe I didn't need the extra stress being elected would surely bring lol.

There were a lot of good candidates and some of my friends were elected so I'm happy for them. It was overall a positive experience for me despite not winning.

I wasn't really laid off... But I wish I was... I was instead moved to another position within the company. A move that is an insult. I would have def preferred to be laid off and get my severance and unemployment while looking for a new position. Looking for a new position while learning a new job is not a fun task.
