    Anybody on here a licensed amateur radio operator? I've been listening in on my local 2 Meter band lately and am really considering getting licensed and picking up a radio.

    I've sent an email to the local club about it. Waiting to hear back. I think they test on the 2nd Monday each month. I've some studying to do first though.

    I'm forgetting who it was but there used to be someone on the site that was a ham operator. I've got marine VHF, and I've gone through many CB radios (some modified to get bigger power) I know several hams through work as well. Its a cool hobby if you want to build your own radios.

    Building radios? That sounds like crazy talk. Building an antenna is on the upper end of my pay grade.

    I've been studying. By studying, I mean taking practice tests repeatedly and trying to remember the correct answers. I think I have passed once out of 20 or so attempts.

    I should get mine, now that they don't require a code test it's not so bad. It's just that taking about Star Trek isn't that much fun, even with distortion.

    iApps for HAMs? I think you should fail the test for that alone. Real dweebs.... ehem, I mean HAMs do not have iPhones... (unless they are a toy secondary to their Motorola Androids, which are far superior in all but cosmetic ways).
