SS. I had a leak in a weld and tried to seal it with jb. Didn't work.

Since I don't have the equipment to weld stainless and my friend who does graduated and moved away, I had to order weldless parts

seems like that should do the trick.

I would have thought so also. I don't think it was sticking to the metal. I reapplied a couple of times and water kept dipping out from under the jb.

Which JB Wled product did you use? I see there are myriad of options.

I'm not willing to buy a stainless wire wheel for the mig. And I've never heard on arc welding stainless.

That's all they use at my work and they make everything out of SS (food manufacturing). SS wire is only a buck or two more than mild steel.

For a wheel? Granted, I'm no professional welder but I thought a whole wheel would be more than that. Can you use the same gas?

I don't know the prices exactly. But last time I was buying MIG wire I remember the 2lb spools being not much more. Welding works the same way. I've never done it but I bet it's a little more difficult because everything seems to be with SS.

Just use low power and slowly make a glob, it might not stop the leak but it wont make it worse.

I thought Lincoln makes stainless rod for ark welding? Maybe not.

I didn't know he was a welder?

A really long time ago I worked for a company doing non destructive testing on welds and I know SS was always the toughest for people to get right.

If a magnet does not stick to it it is 300 (most likely 304 or 316) it's good to know if there are options for SS sticks.

A hack welder. I used to be a machinist.

That's awesome. Kinda a dying breed because of the cnc and waterjet machines now.

You can get a spool of stainless wire from HFT for pretty cheap.

There are better gasses for stainless than the normal mild steel gas, but it will work. probably just have more spatter than you'd like.

I don't recommend going down that path. It's expensive, not easily available compared to solid SS wire. And another thing to note is most flux core SS wire is actually "Dual-Shield" meaning it's intended to be run with gas. But allows you to run cleanly without Tri-Mix, which is the best gas for metal core SS wire welding.
